WHY I’M HERE
INTERVIEWS AROUND BLACK LIBERATION
directed by Jarrod Cann
WHY I'M HERE is a portrait of people who refused to remain silent. Through a series of on-the-street interviews, the short film gathers the voices of organizers, workers, students, and neighbors who explain, in their own words, why they march, why they organize, and why they continue to build together. Their testimonies connect personal experience to the broader fight against police violence, systemic racism, and economic exploitation.
Set against the backdrop of nationwide uprisings Sam DuBose, Tamir RIce, and even Timothy Thomas years before.. and countless others, the film highlights a turning point where grief transformed into organized resistance. Everyday people articulate their vision of a future where safety does not depend on police, but on solidarity, disciplined struggle, and collective power.
Why I’m Here resists spectacle in favor of bearing witness of the lived experiences of everyday, working class people, echoing the voices of earlier generations while demanding liberation today.
